Surrey Canadian Baseball Association (SCBA) is gearing up for the 2026 baseball season and is inviting youth ages 10–18, along with adults, to step onto the field as baseball umpires.
Umpiring offers a unique way to stay involved in the game—building confidence, leadership, and decision-making skills while staying active and earning money. No prior umpiring experience is required, and participants do not need to be current Surrey players to get started.
To prepare new and returning umpires, SCBA will host Level 1 and Level 2 umpire clinics on February 28, 2026, at the Lionel Courchene Batting Facility. These clinics will provide on-field instruction and guidance for umpires at different experience levels, along with an online learning component through the BC Baseball Umpires Association (BCBUA).
Surrey Canadian players who complete 10 games officiating with SCBA will be eligible for a rebate on their umpire registration fee, helping make the program even more accessible for families.
With Surrey hosting games and tournaments throughout the 2026 season, SCBA is emphasizing the importance of developing confident young umpires to support a fun, fair, and positive baseball environment.
Registration is available through the BCBUA website (www.bcbua.ca). Additional clinic dates and locations can also be found online.
