Since 1976, when Canada hosted the Summer Olympics in Montreal, and people were tuning in each week to watch a new episode of Happy Days, Surrey Canadian Baseball Association has been providing opportunities for kids to play baseball at Lionel Courchene Park in Guildford.

SCBA is ramping up for its 50th anniversary season of play, offering all interested girls and boys aged 4-18 a place to play ball during the Spring season from April – June.  Player registration is now open and information can be found on the organization’s website at surreycanadian.com/registration.  Early bird (reduced) registration fee rates will remain in effect until January 31, 2025.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration of Surrey Canadian Baseball Association will showcase both the history of the organization and the future of the sport in Surrey, the province, and in Canada.  A new mural that commemorates the 50 years of baseball at Lionel Courchene Park has been completed and will officially be unveiled as park of this season’s opening ceremonies on Sunday, April 6th.  Uniforms will include the new 50th logo and the association will be inviting all players, coaches, volunteers past and present to join us in the celebration throughout the season.  To make sure you have all the latest information, follow Surrey Canadian on its website or social media channels (Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram).

“We are excited about the new season and are looking forward to honouring the 50-year history of Surrey Canadian in 2025” says Rob McKay, President.  “Player registration is open and we are hoping that more families will sign up this year and discover the benefits of having their kids participate in a sport that promotes physical and mental health, social development, emotional growth, life skills and family and community involvement…..all while having fun with their teammates and families all season!”  McKay added that “volunteers are needed to help out with the new season, so if you have time to commit and share a passion for the sport, we would love to have you join us.”

David Leavers, 2nd Vice President, will head up the SCBA 50th Anniversary Committee in 2025.  “50 years of making an impact in so many young lives is cause for celebration, and our committee will be actively promoting the association and its history all year…starting with our opening ceremonies on April 6th”, says Leavers.
