Blastball U5 / Rally Cap U7 / Tadpole U9 - Cancellation of 2020 Season

By Webmaster, 06/10/20, 7:30AM PDT

This week Baseball BC announced its ‘Return to Play Guidelines’ for its member organizations.  These guidelines were developed with direction from the Provincial Health Officer and viaSport, a non-profit society that acts as an agent for the BC Government in providing direction and oversight to amateur sport.  The announcement gave authorization for the return to play with transition measures from June to September.  In this transition, Surrey Canadian Baseball Association would be required to comply with the following measures intended to minimize the risks associated with the restart of sport:

  • No games, small groups only (max 10 players and 2 coaches) for practicing
  • Maintain physical distance of 2M for all players at all times
  • No or limited spectators
  • No shared equipment

The Executive of SCBA has determined that these transition measures would be too difficult for our program to fully comply with at our younger age series.  In addition, we agreed that this isn’t the program that families signed up for.  As a result, a motion was passed tonight officially cancelling the 2020 Blastball U5, Rally Cap U7 and Tadpole U9 season of play.

SCBA shares your disappointment but is committed to the safety of all participants and our families.  While we have been hopeful that COVID-19 would not cause the cancellation of the entire season, in the coming weeks, each player registration fee will be 100% refunded.  This reimbursement will be made by cheque, mailed to your residence.  (Unfortunately we are not able to reimburse electronically as the 3-month period that allows for this has expired with our registration software provider)  We sincerely hope that your daughter/son will return to play in 2021.

If you have older children registered at Mosquito U11, Peewee U13, Bantam U15, and Midget U17 levels, we are still examining the transition measures, risk exposure and programming options before deciding whether to offer a modified program for 2020.   Please be patient as we work through this in the next week or so.  Further announcement will follow specific to these age series.

Enjoy a safe summer.
