Mosquito Summer Ball

Based upon the highly successful merge programs at Peewee and Bantam involving both Surrey Canadian Baseball Association and Newton Canadian Baseball Association, the two organizations are pleased to announce their intent to field 3 merged Mosquito teams for Summer Ball 2019.

There are approximately 80 registered Mosquito players from the two organizations, and from this group of players combined, teams will be selected at 3 levels for BC Minor Summer Ball play:

•    AAA (Tier 2)
•    AA
•    A (U10 – born 2009 only)

At the bottom of this page is a link for parents to declare their child’s interest in trying out for these teams.  Coaches will be announced for these 3 teams and dates will be advertised for player assessments /try outs.

In the meantime feel free to speak with our Mosquito Division Coordinator: Jim Innes (Surrey) 11u@surreycanadian.com

Summer Ball FAQs

What is Summer Ball?
Summer Ball is an ‘All-Star’ program that is available in each division from Tadpole through Midget.

When is Summer Ball season?
Summer Ball begins with assessments and tryouts in early-mid June, with tournament /games beginning the June 27-July 1 long weekend.  Mosquito Summer Ball season is quite intense and includes approximately 2 games per week throughout June, plus practices and tournament(s).  Teams that are successful in the June schedule of games (qualifiers) will qualify for Provincial Championships (August Long Weekend).  The Provincial Championships signify the end of the Summer Ball season.  August 5 will be the latest the teams will play.

Who is eligible to play Summer Ball?
All players who played in either Surrey Canadian or Newton Canadian programs in the Spring season are eligible to try out for the Summer Ball teams.

How are players selected?
The 3 Summer Ball teams will be determined by open tryouts.  After the tryouts, the division coordinators and coaches will evaluate the results and make the final determination as to which players will make the team or not.  Depending on how many kids try out, some unfortunately could not be selected for a team.

What are the Commitment Requirements?
Summer Ball requires a significant commitment.  Players need to commit to being available for practices, games and tournaments from the end of June through the August long weekend.  Rosters will be large enough to make it okay (possibly) to miss a week during the season, but not during Provincials when we will want all players available.

What tournaments will we attend?
Surrey Canadian will host a tournament on June 27-July 1 for our AAA (Tier 2) team.  Newton will host a tournament on June 27-July 1 for our AA team.  The U10 team will also be entered in a tournament (to be determined).  Finally, the Provincial championships will be run tournament style August 2-5.

Where are Provincials held?
Mosquito Summer Ball Provincials will be held in:
•    AAA (Tier 2)        North Delta
•    AA                          Oceanside
•    A                             Kamloops
